I’ve been getting some care packages in the mail over the past couple of days. Well, the companies like to call them care packages. They’re really ostomy supply samples that the companies sent me to try out.
It’s funny, I actually got a little excited about receiving them in the mail. First of all, it’s always fun to receive packages in the mail. Secondly, they’ve given me some more options that are more comfortable and discreet than the ones I was given at the hospital. The ostomy bags I took home from the hospital are very long and transparent. I felt pretty self-conscious wearing it around, even though no one else could see it, but I still felt a little weird even around Jarrod. Now I have some that are smaller and have coverings on them. I can tell a difference already in my confidence with this one that’s more discreet.
I’m still getting used to how they work and getting better at changing and maintaining them. I’m sure that soon enough it’ll be second nature. For now, I’ve got lots of samples to try to figure out what works best for me. I also have to figure out how to order everything and have it covered by insurance, but we won’t worry about that just yet.
Visit each of the manufacturer sites in order to order free samples to try out: Coloplast, Convatec & Hollister.
